An exciting field of 14 sprinters have been confirmed for Sunday’s featured Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield Racecourse, highlighted by several previous winners at the highest level of Australian racing.
Having returned to the track in career-best form this season, trainer Peter Moody has confirmed Dissident in the final field for the 2014 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, who will be offered an excellent chance of added success from the ideal barrier 5.
One of the country’s leading racing horses over the entire 2014 Racing Calendar, Dissident finishing second in the Listed Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) first-up on February 15th before claiming back-t0-back victories in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) most notably on March 15th.
Charging home to secure an exceptional two-and-a-half length win in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) first-up, the Sebring entire poked clear to win the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) last time out and appears primed for a third consecutive Group 1 win this weekend.
Moody is offered two great chances of success in the 2014 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, having also accepted a position in the final field for A Time For Julia, who will leave from the ideal barrier 1 with veteran Glen Boss aboard.
Claiming four wins and six minors from just 14 competitive starts so far, A Time For Julia performed to a typically high standard over the 2014 Autumn Carnival; returning for a strong win in the Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) before finishing second to champion mare Red Tracer in the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) on March 1st most notably.
Returning for back-to-back second placings in the Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m) and Group 3 How Now Stakes (1200m) this time in, the Redoute’s Choice mare is likely to relish the step-up to 1400m for the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.
Finishing second to Dissident in the Memsie Stakes last time out, trainer Gai Waterhouse has confirmed Sweet Idea for the 2014 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, who will have to overcome the slightly wide barrier 8.
Finishing outside the places just twice over her 15 race career so far, Sweet Idea was a strong and consistent performer over the Autumn Carnival; winning both the Wyong Magic Millions 3.y.o Stakes (1200m) and Gold Coast Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) before returning to Sydney for an impressive win in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m).
Continuing to build in form and class on her way to a close second in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m), the Snitzel mare won the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) in her only other start prior to the Memsie this time in and appears likely to break through for a maiden Group 1 victory at some point over the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival.
Charged with overcoming barrier 12 in the 2014 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, Speediness finished a credible fourth in the Group 3 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) first-up and will be partnered by jockey Craig Williams in the Rupert Clarke Stakes.
Securing seven wins and ten minors from 32 competitive starts, the Testa Rossa gelding finished fourth in the 2013 edition of the Sir Rupert Clarke, in a campaign which also included a close third behind champion miler Boban in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m).
Finishing second in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) most notably over a consistent autumn campaign, trainer Colin Scott is confident his entrant will settle in prime position from the wide draw before launching a late charge in the 2014 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.
