Jumping from the gates well, the Keep The Faith entire settled within the pack over the back straight and rounding the bend, allowing early leader Sistine Demon to set a notably quick tempo.

Finding the final straight with plenty to do, jockey Damian Lane led Trust In A Gust through the pack towards the lead, and while dropping off the pace of multiple Group 1 champion Dissident less than 100m from home, displayed a superior kick to Peter Moody’s top-weight, finding the line a short nose in the clear; Bull Point running on for third.

Forced to endure several minutes of uncertainty after Dissident’s rider Ben Melham launched a protest for an early race incident, trainer Darren Weir was understandably thrilled to secure a maiden Victorian Group 1 title in the 2014 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes and was quick to praise the classy stallion.

“I’ve had a heap of placings. It’s great to get the monkey off the back,” Weir said immediately after the race.

“It’s a great thrill for me to get one finally in Victoria. And to do it with this little horse is great.

“He got headed and fought back and just stuck his head out at the right time.

“He’s a great little trier.”

Jockey Damien Lane delivered an exceptional ride for success in the 2014 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, also breaking through for a maiden victory at racing’s highest level.
